Iain Cameron and his wife Brioni left Scotland and moved onto a boat in the Caribbean, in 2020. Besides, we both had stable jobs in Scotland: Brioni was an elementary school teacher and I worked in tech as an international technical trainer. For over two years now, living on a boat has made us stronger, more confident, and more appreciative. Iain and Brioni sailing on their boat in the Caribbean. Chandlor Henderson moved from Washington, DC, to Eugene, Oregon, in 2015. After eight years without her, I left Northeast Washington, DC, in 2015 and took a Greyhound bus to Eugene, Oregon. At the time, my knowledge of Oregon and the West Coast was limited, but my life in DC had become challenging. Why I'm moving back to DCMy involvement in the community, especially the Black community, has been deeply rewarding. I don't regret moving to Oregon, but I believe moving back to DC will be just as meaningful and transformative.

A UPS warehouse worker in a southeastern US state says the summer heat has made their job difficult. Workers are given a heat safety training but also watch each other for signs of danger. During the hottest summer ever on record , my job in a UPS warehouse has been really difficult. My job is one of the physically easier ones in my warehouse, but going into work during the summer is just awful. "UPS and the Teamsters have also reached a tentative new agreement on heat safety with the Teamsters."

When I went to my next shift at Olive Garden, I decided to give away free dessertIt was pretty easy to do. There were instances where managers would give away free desserts or bottles of wine to unsatisfied guests so it felt normal. I never told anyone I was giving away free desserts, and no one ever figured it out. It's pretty basic: look good, feel good. Editor's note: Olive Garden had not responded to a request for comment as of time of publication.

She said her video game subscription is one thing she'd never cut back on — even during a recession. My career kicked off 17 years ago at a Los Angeles startup and I've been working as an engineer ever since. Since recessions are uncontrollable, I tend not to stress about the possibility of one, but there are things I'll always spend money on no matter what. Coffee subscriptionI have a coffee subscription to pump me up in the morning. So I pay $50 a month for my coffee subscription.

Kasey Spicer traveled to Tijuana for bariatric surgery in 2021 and had a successful experience. Her husband didn't want her to go, but it went so well, he got the same surgery in Mexico in 2022. This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Kasey Spicer, a 44-year-old school teacher from Lexington, South Carolina, about traveling to Mexico for bariatric surgery. Editor's note: Mayo Clinic research found that bariatric surgery can be a safe option for obese patients with coronary-artery disease. Rob and Kasey before and after their bariatric surgery.
Shahab Mahboubian performs 30 to 40 cosmetic limb-lengthening surgeries a year. The only field in medicine that uses all of these tools is orthopedic surgery, so it seemed like the right fit. I specialized in limb-lengthening surgery specifically because I wanted to do something that was different from everybody else. People that undergo limb-lengthening surgery are from all walks of life, and many used COVID lockdowns to recover post-surgery. I would say 80% to 85% of my cosmetic limb-lengthening patients are men, and 15% to 20% are women.
Dr. Paul Kolodzik has been prescribing semaglutide to his diabetic patients since 2017. The one regret he hears from patients on the drug is they can't enjoy food as much. Before that, I was an emergency physician for about 25 years, caring for patients with strokes, heart attacks, and diabetic emergencies. I started prescribing semaglutide under the label Ozempic to my diabetic patients in 2017Novo Nordisk, a global pharmaceutical company, developed Ozempic as a medication for diabetics to control their blood sugar. So, physicians started prescribing some patients who weren't diabetic Ozempic off-label since Ozempic is not approved for weight loss — even though it's the same generic medicine.
An older Amazon worker shared their experience preparing for peak periods at the warehouse. At my warehouse, a week before peak period starts, all the equipment is serviced in anticipation of the busiest time of the year. With increased orders, there are more boxes to pack and most people are very stressed, but I really enjoy it. During Black Fridays and other peak periods, Amazon gives out incentivesAmazon used to give out $50 Amazon gift cards during peak periods. Are you an Amazon worker with a story to tell?

Ali Brown is a travel nurse currently based in Billings, Montana. Brown became a travel nurse in 2014, and loves the pay and travel. You need to show that you're really paying a mortgage that is fair market value, not just taking the money for other uses. My experience as a travel nurse has taught me so many different layers of perspective that I can use in my career moving forward. Are you a travel nurse with a story about the job?
Rich Rotella, 38, is an actor who had limb-lengthening surgery to advance his career. The surgery itself took four hours, but the recovery is the most time-consuming part — it's a slow, painful process. Rotella in a wheelchair after his limb-lengthening surgery. Rotella on a bike machine during his rehab from limb-lengthening surgery. I don't pay heed to negative reactions that I've gotten from the people around me who still think I was wrong to do this, because limb-lengthening surgery is just like any other cosmetic surgery.

He quit his CEO job and began working 11-hour Amazon warehouse shifts during the company's busiest season. I decided to take a warehouse job at AmazonIt felt like the one thing I really needed for myself was some structure — wakeup times, some exercise — just to get out there somehow. Philip Su worked in an Amazon warehouse for seven weeks. My warehouse job lifted me out of my depressionI took the job because I was desperate for something to enforce regularity for me, and I very much benefited from Amazon doing that. A Staten Island Amazon employee shares how "stowers" prepare for Amazon Prime Day in the warehouse. Being a warehouse worker close to Prime Day is crazy. About a week before Prime Day, we make sure that we start the shift with empty pods. It's the same schedule, leading up to Prime Day, just way more work and intensity. You have more pressure because Prime Day orders are usually "reactive" — or time sensitive — orders.
